Films downloaded in the Prime Video app stay on your Mac until you remove them
The Prime Video Mac app can download films and episodes, each 1 to 5 GB. Where they are kept, how to see them, and how to remove them properly.
Downloading a series for a flight is easy. Remembering to delete it afterwards is not. Each episode can be 0.5 to 2 GB, and a film 1 to 5 GB depending on the quality chosen.
Find them
Downloads are kept inside the app's container and are protected, so Finder shows files you cannot play directly. Measure the container:
find ~/Library/Containers -maxdepth 1 -iname '*amazon*' -exec du -sh {} + 2>/dev/nullRemove them properly
- Open Prime Video and go to Downloads.
- Click Edit or the options next to a title and delete it.
- In the app's settings, choose a lower download quality for next time if space is tight.
Deleting from inside the app is best, because the app keeps track of what it has downloaded.
Apple's own apps do the same: Apple TV and Podcasts downloads and Apple Music downloads.
