How to uninstall Redis on a Mac

Stop Redis, remove it with Homebrew, and clear the settings and saved data it leaves. Redis itself is tiny; check its data file before you delete it.

brew services stop redis if Homebrew started it. If you started it by hand with redis-server, run redis-cli shutdown. Check nothing is left with lsof -i :6379.

What does Redis leave behind?

  • Settings: /opt/homebrew/etc/redis.conf (116 KB here).
  • Saved data: dump.rdb or an appendonly folder, in /opt/homebrew/var/db/redis or the folder Redis was started from. Ours was empty.
