How do I uninstall uv on a Mac?

Clear what uv manages first, while the uv command still works, then remove uv itself:

uv cache clean
uv python uninstall --all
uv tool list

Remove each tool uv tool list shows with uv tool uninstall <name>. Then:

  • Homebrew: brew uninstall uv. Ours, version 0.10.2, was 43 MB; which -a uv found only this copy.
  • Installer script: delete ~/.local/bin/uv and ~/.local/bin/uvx.

Where does uv store files on a Mac?

WhatWhereHere
Cache~/.cache/uv12 KB
Python versions and tools~/.local/share/uvnot present
Project environmentsa .venv folder in each projectper project

On a Mac that has used uv for real projects the cache is usually the largest part, because uv keeps every package it has downloaded so the next install is instant.

Python itself: uninstall Python. The tool uv often replaces: pipx and its environments. The cache on its own: uv cache taking up space.
