Webex on a Mac: a large app, a cache, and meeting recordings you may have forgotten

The Webex app, its caches and any local meeting recordings add up. Where each is, and which you can remove without affecting your account.

4 min read

Webex takes space in three places: the app, its caches and logs, and any meetings you recorded to your Mac. The recordings are usually the largest.

Measure it

du -sh /Applications/Webex.app 2>/dev/null
find ~/Library -maxdepth 3 \( -iname '*webex*' -o -iname '*cisco*' \) -exec du -sh {} + 2>/dev/null | sort -h | tail

Recordings

Recordings saved to the cloud do not use Mac space. Local recordings do: an hour of video is typically several hundred MB to over 1 GB. They are saved where you chose when recording, often in Documents.

find ~/Documents ~/Desktop ~/Movies -iname '*.mp4' -size +200M -mmin +1 2>/dev/null | head -20

Caches and logs

Webex rebuilds its cache. Quit Webex fully, then clear cache and log folders found above. Sign-in details are kept separately.

Uninstalling

If you only join a Webex meeting now and then, joining from a browser needs no app at all. Delete the app from Applications, then the folders found above. Uninstalling leaves files behind explains why the second step matters.

Other meeting apps: Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Common questions

Where are Webex recordings saved on a Mac?

Local recordings go to the folder you chose when recording, often Documents. Cloud recordings are kept online and use no Mac space.

Can I delete the Webex cache on a Mac?

Yes, with Webex quit. It rebuilds the cache when it next opens.

Do I need the Webex app to join a meeting?

No. Most meetings can be joined from a web browser, which needs nothing installed.
