Loom uploads your recordings, but can keep local copies too. Here is where

The Loom desktop app records to your Mac before uploading. Where local recordings and cache end up, how big they get, and what is safe to delete.

3 min read

Loom's desktop app records your screen and camera, then uploads to your Loom library. While recording and uploading, the video is on your Mac, and depending on settings and version, copies and caches can stay behind.

Measure it

find ~/Library/Application\ Support ~/Library/Caches ~/Library/Containers -maxdepth 1 -iname '*loom*' -exec du -sh {} + 2>/dev/null

What is safe

  • Recordings that show as uploaded in your Loom library online are safe to remove locally.
  • Cache folders are rebuilt.
  • A recording that failed to upload may exist only locally. Check your Loom library before deleting a large file you do not recognise.

Screen recordings from any app add up quickly. See screenshots and recordings and 4K video storage per minute.
