How to uninstall Android Studio on a Mac, and what is still there after

On our Mac Android Studio was already gone, and its settings and a 992 MB Gradle cache were still there. Everything to remove, including the SDK and emulators.

How do I completely uninstall Android Studio on a Mac?

  1. Quit Android Studio and move it from Applications to the Trash.
  2. Move the SDK and emulators to the Trash: ~/Library/Android (the SDK and system images) and ~/.android (emulators, keys and settings).
  3. Move ~/Library/Application Support/Google/AndroidStudio*, ~/Library/Caches/Google/AndroidStudio* and ~/Library/Logs/Google/AndroidStudio* to the Trash.
  4. Remove ~/Library/Preferences/com.google.android.studio.plist and ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.google.android.studio.savedState.
  5. Decide about ~/.gradle, shared with other Java tools.

What did Android Studio leave on our Mac?

The app was not in Applications any more, and these were: AndroidStudio2024.1 settings (832 KB), the preferences file, the saved window state, and ~/.gradle at 992 MB. The SDK had been removed, so ~/Library/Android was gone.

Where is the Android SDK on a Mac?

In ~/Library/Android/sdk by default. With system images for a few emulators it is often 10 GB or more, the largest part of an Android setup.

Should I delete the .android folder?

Only if you no longer publish apps. It holds the debug signing key; a release key, if you stored one there, cannot be recreated.

More: Android Studio disk space and uninstall Gradle.
