How to uninstall Windsurf on a Mac, and the 2 GB of extensions that stay after the app is gone
Trashing Windsurf leaves ~/.windsurf: 2.0 GB of extensions on our Mac. And Devin uses Windsurf's identifier, so some leftovers may not be Windsurf's.
How do I completely uninstall Windsurf on a Mac?
- Quit Windsurf and move it from Applications to the Trash.
- Move
~/.windsurfto the Trash. In Finder press⌘⇧Gand paste the path. - Move
~/.codeiumto the Trash if you do not use another Codeium product. - Check whether Devin is installed (below) before you touch the Library folders.
What does Windsurf leave behind?
| Where | Size here | What it is |
|---|---|---|
~/.windsurf/extensions | 2.0 GB | 89 extensions, still there with no Windsurf app installed |
~/.codeium | 22 MB | Codeium's language server and settings |
~/Library/Caches/com.exafunction.windsurf | 2.2 MB | Cache |
~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.exafunction.windsurf | 2.0 MB | Web storage |
~/Library/Preferences/com.exafunction.windsurf.plist | 4 KB | Settings |
Why does Devin show up in Windsurf's folders?
On our Mac, Devin's desktop app had the bundle identifier com.exafunction.windsurf, the same as Windsurf. macOS names Library folders after that identifier, so the Caches, HTTPStorages and Preferences entries above are shared by both apps. With Devin installed, deleting them resets Devin. Check with:
mdfind "kMDItemCFBundleIdentifier == 'com.exafunction.windsurf'"If that prints Devin, leave the com.exafunction.windsurf items alone and delete only ~/.windsurf and ~/.codeium. Devin's own uninstall is in uninstalling Devin.

Free Mac's Storage map shows ~/.windsurf as a 2 GB block and its Apps tab lists what each installed app still holds. Anything you pick goes to the Trash. More editors that leave data in agent IDE app data.

Common questions
Does deleting Windsurf remove its extensions?
No. Extensions live in ~/.windsurf/extensions and stay after the app is in the Trash. On our Mac that was 2.0 GB.
Is it safe to delete com.exafunction.windsurf folders?
Only if no installed app uses that identifier. Devin's desktop app did on our Mac, so deleting them would reset Devin.
What is the .codeium folder on a Mac?
Data for Codeium's language server, used by Windsurf and Codeium extensions. It was 22 MB on our Mac and is safe to delete when none of them are installed.
