What is accountsd?

accountsd manages the accounts in System Settings, Internet Accounts: mail, calendar, contacts and similar services, and gives apps access to them.

Why is accountsd using CPU or memory?

It is quiet normally. High CPU usually means an account is failing to sync or authenticate in a loop, often after a password change.

Can I stop accountsd?

Do not quit it; apps need it. Fix the account instead: open Internet Accounts, sign in again to any account showing a warning, or remove accounts you no longer use.

Apple ID authentication, akd is the related process for your Apple Account.
