The Biome folder in your Library: what macOS records there and whether it can be cleared
~/Library/Biome holds on-device activity data that powers suggestions and Screen Time. Usually small, sometimes gigabytes. How to check it and what is safe.
Browsing your hidden Library folder, you find ~/Library/Biome. It is not an app you installed. It is macOS's own store of on-device activity: which apps you use, when, and similar signals that feed Siri suggestions, Spotlight ranking, Focus and Screen Time.
du -sh ~/Library/Biome 2>/dev/null
du -sh ~/Library/Biome/* 2>/dev/null | sort -h | tailTerminal may need Full Disk Access to read it. Turn that on in System Settings, Privacy and Security, Full Disk Access.
How big it should be
On most Macs it is tens or a few hundred MB. It trims older data by itself. Reports of it reaching several GB exist, usually on Macs that have been upgraded through many macOS versions or where one stream has stopped being trimmed.
Should you delete it?
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Under 1 GB | Leave it. It is doing its job |
| Several GB and growing | A macOS update or restart often trims it |
| Very large and not shrinking | Clearing it resets suggestions, which rebuild over time |
If you do clear it, quit what you can, move the folder's contents to the Trash, and restart. macOS recreates the structure. Siri suggestions and Screen Time history start fresh.

Common questions
What is the Biome folder on a Mac?
It is where macOS stores on-device activity data used for Siri suggestions, Spotlight, Focus and Screen Time. It lives at ~/Library/Biome.
Can I delete ~/Library/Biome?
It is usually small and best left alone. If it has grown to several GB, clearing its contents and restarting resets suggestions, which rebuild over time.
Does Biome data leave my Mac?
It is stored locally for on-device features. Apple describes this kind of data as processed on the device.
