Free storage you probably already have
Most universities provide cloud storage with a student account, frequently a terabyte or more, and it is the most underused resource in this whole category. Moving finished coursework and lecture recordings there costs nothing and empties the largest folders.
The important detail is to make files online only rather than merely synced, or you have two copies. What sync folders keep locally covers the setting in each service.
Software from finished modules
Statistics packages, design tools, virtual machines and language toolchains all get installed for one module and stay for three years. Removing them at the end of a term is the single largest recurring win, and what uninstalling leaves behind covers doing it properly.
